Petro Kholodny uses a Christmas carol about a girl and a peahen as subject for his picture. A green glade, a Ukrainian girl and an exotic peacock are united by the rhythm of tender lines and forms. It is delicately accented by soft exhausted decolorized colors, creates a song-like fancy mood.
(Petro Kholodny "Fairytale about a girl and a peahen" 1916)
